FAQ'S

What sort of wood are the kegs made from?

We make all our kegs from seasoned American White Oak from used red wine barrels.

Do you supply instructions on how to prepare the keg for use?

Yes, all the kegs come with simple, easy to follow instructions and warranty.

Do they come with a tap, or do I need to buy one separately?

All our kegs come complete with tap, stand, and bung.

What do you put on the outside of the kegs?

Our kegs have a light coat of lacquer to prevent liquid, grease and dust from staining the wood. The keg still 'breathes', which is part of the maturation process.

Will the brass or steel hoops tarnish over time?

No, they have been sealed with a clear coat and will not need polishing. For cleaning purposes, simply dust the keg. If you spill some liquid while filling the keg, use a slightly damp cloth to clean it up.

Is the 'Jarrah' keg actually made from Jarrah?

No, it is made from American Oak, from ex red wine barrels. The jarrah colour is simply a stain. The same applies to the 'Walnut' and 'Teak' kegs.

Can I get one of the Black Hoop kegs in a colour stain?

No, they are only available in 'Natural'.

Can I get a 5, 10, 15, or 20 Litre keg with Brass or Steel hoops?

No, they are only available with the Black hoops.

Can I get a 2 or 4.5 Litre keg with Black hoops?

No, they are only available with either brass or Steel hoops.

What sort of Port/Other Fortified Wine can I put in it?

You only need to use cheap bulk Port/Fortified as the oak will carry out the maturation process.

How long do I need to leave the port/spirit in the keg until I can drink it?

We suggest that you start drinking from your keg within a month of putting the port in. Slowly 'tipple-away' until the keg is half full and then fill it up again.

Can I use it for table wine?

No, they are not suitable for that purpose.

Do you do personalised plaques or wood burning?

No, but many shoe repair/key cutting outlets or sporting trophy shops can do this for you.

Can the Tubbies logo be removed from the front of the keg?

All Tubbies Kegs come with the logo attached.

It is at the customers discretion to remove the logo once purchased. We do not take any responsibility for any damage done to the keg in the process of removal.

How long will delivery take?

Generally, from the time of ordering, we dispatch the goods within the next 2 to 3 business days. Delivery by Australia Post is roughly 4 to 7 business days in Australia.

How much does it cost for delivery?

The cost of postage is dependent on the keg size and the postcode being delivered too. The freight cost is calculated and added to your order and shown during the ordering process. Alternatively, you can ring us before ordering to find out the freight cost.

I've left ordering a bit late, can I get the keg sent by express post?

Yes, but you will need to phone us to arrange that. Also bear in mind that it is expensive -approximately 3 times more than the regular rate.  If you require the keg urgently as a gift, we suggest you print a picture of the keg and pop it in a greeting card with the words “ Specially for you –  arriving soon!”

I want to order a keg now, but won't be able to fill it for a while. How long can I safely leave it empty?

Store in a cool spot- preferably in it’s box.  Fill it within 3 months.

How full do I need to keep it?

Your keg should always be maintained at least half full to prevent drying of the timber staves, which will lead to shrinkage and could cause the keg to leak.

Can I store the keg with water in it until I am ready to put Port/Spirit into it?

No, the water will become stagnant and contaminate the wood.

Do you have any recipes for a good Port?

No, It is a matter of personal taste – experiment with different blends and create your own.
